When mom walks me in the park, sometimes she thanks God for what she calls “hugs”…..like beautiful weather, blue skies and singing birds. She sometimes even thanks Him for me! I guess I should thank him for my hugs too. I can’t say the words but my Creator knows my heart and how grateful I am that He hooked me up with my very loved earthly master who loves and cares for me! Praise to our Heavenly Father from all His creatures great and small! 💖
It occurred to me that before the fall of mankind , when things were perfect in the Garden of Eden, perhaps animals were intended to be able to converse . After all, when the serpent spoke to Eve, she wasn’t surprised or astounded it could speak. Instead, she listened and considered what it was saying. Perhaps, and hopefully so, animals in eternity will be able to express to us their thoughts and feelings and fill us in on their histories. How awesome that hug would be!
I had to add my hug to this list . Recently I adopted a puppy from a rescue and was sitting on my porch with him enjoying the warm evening when he suddenly darted off my lap and went tearing across the street and across a field after whatever he must have decided needed chasing. It was dark and I’m disabled and was terrified. I prayed for God’s protection over him and started out walking and calling. It was difficult to see but as I approached a streetlight a block away, I saw a little girl coming toward me with my puppy in her arms. She caught him on the run and was bringing him back to me . “I know where he lives ‘ cause I saw you playing with him the other day when I rode my bike past your house” she said. God bless her heart. Something really bad could have happened and some would call it lucky that I got him back safely . I know better. That was a hug from above for sure and I am so thankful.

It’s always very upsetting to me when I see, hear or even think about the suffering that animals have to go through. They experience fear and pain either in the form of abuse or ravages of nature at it’s cruelest. For years I struggled with this trying to make sense of it and fostering doubts. But I trust my Lord and Savior and the Creator of all their prescious little lives and I believe when all things are made right…all those little mini souls will be safe in His care for all eternity. Every birth is a miracle and God would never waste a miracle. PRAISE HIS HOLY NAME.
Said the robin to the sparrow,
I should really like to know,
Why these anxious human beings
Rush about and worry so.
Said the sparrow to the robin,
Friend, I think that it must be,
That they have no heavenly
Such as cares for you and me.
Five years ago a mother cat had a feral litter of kittens in my garage. After a very long time and many attempts to capture them, we finally had them and got them neutered and spade . They were presumably happy but one day a few weeks ago, the two smallest females escaped through a window that was left open. They ran. For three weeks they would be seen hiding in the bushes and would even come up on the porch to be fed but would not come back in. We tried every trick to no avail. They were wet and cold and scared and hungry but wouldn’t come in. The weatherman said there was a chance of frost. I had asked God to protect them from predators and a multitude of other dangers, but now I was begging Him to let this be the night they would finally decide to come in where it was safe and warm and nothing would harm them. They were meowing from the bushes for food and I hunkered down in the doorway and called them for about the millionth time and they came up to me. One of them let me pet her and I was able to pick her up and bring her in, My daughter was able to convince the other cat that she was coming in too. At first they were very scared but they quickly remembered their surroundings and were very happy and content to be back. I was very grateful to God and thanked Him profusely. From this experience with my feline version of the wanderers, I now have a deeper respect for what the Prodigal son’s dad was feeling. Praise God from Whom all blessings flow. KAT
It occurred to me that my extreme love for all animals is a gift from God. Also, every time that I receive affection from an animal……a lick on the hand, or a cuddle, or looks of complete trust….I realize that these are all hugs for me from God too. I found this most appropriate prayer….KAT
LET ME BE THERE FOR THE SPEECHLESS,
THOSE WHO ARE SMALL AND WEAK;
LET ME SPEAK FOR ALL HELPLESS CRITTERS,
WHO HAVE NO POWER TO SPEAK.
I HAVE LIFTED MY HEART TO HEAVEN
ON BEHALF OF THE LEAST OF THESE
THE FRIGHTENED, THE HOMELESS, THE HUNGRY
I AM VOICING THEIR PLEAS.
IF I CAN HELP ANY CREATURE,
RESPOND TO A DESPERATE CALL,
I WILL KNOW THAT MY PRAYER HAS BEEN ANSWERED,
BY THE GOD WHO CREATED THEM ALL.
Our 9 year old shepherd-lab is very frightened of wind. Recently, on a very windy day, he realized we were preparing to leave without him and he bolted out the front door. He ran around the car and seemed to disappear in thin air. Usually he just waits by the car door but we saw him run around the car and then he just vanished. Shane has never run off before…..not ever! We called and called and drove around asking our neighbors if they’d seen him, but no one had and there was not a trace of him . We prayed that God would protect him and bring him back home to us. For nearly 4 hours we paced from window to door and up and down the street calling. Then, just at dark, and just before it began to rain, he reappeared, walking slowly up the driveway to the back door to be let in. He was tired and thirsty, but safe and warm. We were so happy and thankful that he was back. Whatever the reason for the delay that his leaving caused, we may never know, but we were VERY grateful for the “hug” we received from our Master! –KAT
B.R. – I had a hug today. I just got this kitten that is absolutely adorable. She is so tiny and delicate. I let her roam around to get used to her new surroundings. I got preoccupied with things and before I knew it, she had disappeared. I looked all over the house for her. Under couches and in windows and closets. Under beds, in cupboards, and behind everything. When I looked behind the dresser, I saw that the furnace register had become pulled away from the wall. My heart jumped and I prayed that she was okay. I was sure that she had found her way in there and was going to get trapped somewhere in the ducts. When I pulled the dresser out so that I could get back there, I found this tiny gray furrball covered with dust and cobwebs and fast asleep. The Lord answered my quick prayer. She was unharmed and unaware of the potential danger she could have been in had she continued exploring.
